Is it safe?

Yes, Acupuncture has been proven to be a very safe treatment.  We use sterilised single use surgical steal needles.

Practitioners at Inner Balance are highly qualified at degree level and members of British Acupuncture Council following the code of safe practice. Inner Balance is also registered with the Local Authority Environments Health.

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture does not commonly hurt, however there is some sensation to the treatment. Inserting the needles is usually painless, once the needles are inserted the practitioner may stimulate the needle gently, then the patient will normally feel a slight dull ache of tingling, this is usually not painful and subsides after a few minuets. This sensation is normal and part of the effect of acupuncture. Your practitioner will explain this on your first session.

Where do the
needles go?

This varies dependent on your condition and health pattern. Sometimes needles placed distally, and may not be located within the area of concern. The practitioner will still be aiming to help your health concerns, through the lens of holistic Chinese medicine.

If there is an area that you don't want needling please let the practitioner know.

What happens in the first treatment?

In the first treatment will consist of detailed health consultation followed by a health assessment which may involve pulse taking, postural assessment, palpation and tongue diagnoses, please refrain from cleaning or scrapping your tongue on the day of your appointment. After this the practitioner will discuss the best treatment plan for you before conducting the first treatment.

-The needles are commonly retained for 20 minutes whilst you relax. Follow up appointments consist of a short consultation and proceeded by the treatment. The practitioner may also use other complimentary techniques prior, during or after the acupuncture, this may involve any of the treatments available depending on what is best to reach your health goals. At the initial consultation we will create a personalised treatment plan.
